Sinusitis is an inflammation of the tissues in sinuses. Sinuses are the spaces in your forehead, cheeks & nose usually filled with air. It causes facial pain, a stuffy or runny nose and sometimes a fever and other symptoms.

Stages of Sinusitis
There are four prominent stages in Sinusitis. They are as follows:

1. ACUTE:
It is an infection in your sinuses that typically lasts seven to 10 days. Symptoms include stuffy (congested) nose, facial pain and fatigue. Acute often goes away with home care, but you may need medication for it, if it lasts longer than 10 days.
2. SUBACUTE:
Facial pressure, postnasal drip, and congestion are common signs of sinus inflammation, also comes under this. When symptoms persist for up to 12 weeks, it shifts from being acute to what’s known as subacute sinusitis.
3. CHRONIC:
It is when the symptoms and swelling of the sinuses is present for longer than 3 months. It may be caused by bacteria or a fungus. Subacute is when the symptoms and swelling is present from 1 to 3 months.
4. RECURRENT:
Recurrent acute rhinosinusitis (RARS) is defined as experiencing 4 or more episodes of acute rhinosinusitis per year, with each episode lasting at least 10 days and without persistent symptoms in between individual episodes.
